The article “ The Lost word “ by CNN, published on
Tuesday, February 7,2006 is about the new species they had found in the west of
New Guinea. They had found the new species in the 12,000 square feet of a
jungle embedded in the Foja Mountains. The first species that they had
discovered was a rare Honeyeater bird, Berlepsch’s six wired bird, and the
Golden-Fronted bowerbird. They didn’t only discover birds, but they also
discovered butterflies, plants, insects, and also 20 new species of frogs.
Another species they found in the “Lost World” was an uncommon type of Kangaroo
that lives in trees. The explores are concerned about pollution and human development.
They believe that it has something to do with the extinction rates of species.
Now they are taking precautions to protect the newly found area by limiting
human activity there, and they hope that will slow down the extinction rates of
animals.
