The Little Mermaid

I chose to do the project on The Little Mermaid. The three primary sources that I chose to use are “The Little Mermaid in the Tree” by, Timothy Schaffert, the original fairytale “The Little Mermaid”, by Hans Christian Andersen, and “The Little Mermaid” Disney movie. The first Little Mermaid was made in 1836, and has been tweaked over the years. Many writers have altered the original story of the Little Mermaid, and made it their own.  Even though it has been re-made many times, it still had the same key element, which is Ariel. Ariel’s perspective has always been told when reading any Little Mermaid book or any Little Mermaid movie. I believe in the movie you get more information about who Ariel is then any other book written. When watching the movie you get to see her life, learn how she felt throughout the movie, and get an overall visual of what was occurring. The original book “The Little Mermaid” is a short read so her feelings weren’t really told only just the events that she faced with of course pictures. “The Mermaid in the Tree’”, takes the original story and turns it into a completely different story, which is a great example of how the story has changed overtime.  My secondary source that I will be using is an article that I have found online titled “Imperfect ‘Mermaid’” by, John M. Wilson. John discusses continuity errors he had found in the movie The Little Mermaid. He doesn’t necessarily talk down upon the movie, he just points out errors, and he still gives the movie credit for being such a great movie. Throughout the project I will be discussing the Little Mermaid movie, introducing the characters, and their roles.  I will also be discussing how the written story line has been altered throughout the years, what has been added, and what stayed the same. My goal is to leave the reader with a full understanding of the story, and how it’s been altered throughout the years.
